96/100 RP | Drink: 2023-2036. The 2016 Molino Real shows insultingly young. It has things that make us think of a great white Burgundy, something like a Meursault from the past—dense and oily. It has an amazing palate that is solid, velvety, elegant and balanced. It is nuanced and subtle, fine and a bit mysterious. It has terrific balance. This is among the finest vintages, and I think it has aging potential. 2016 was dry and late in Málaga because of a delay in the vegetative cycle given the rains in May, which also favored mildew and resulted in lower yields. The wine a long and complex fermentation in 225-liter oak barrels, where it evolved slowly at low temperature for 20 months. 4,132 500-milliliter bottles were filled in June 2018. I attended a fantastic vertical of 20 vintages of Molino Real, the sweet Moscatel de Alejandría from the Axarquía Mountains in Málaga produced by Telmo Rodríguez and his partner, Pablo Eguzkiza, along with resident winemaker Frenchman David Dupuch and the team from Bodegas Almijara in Cómpeta led by veteran Pepe Ávila.
